One word and one weed at a time
The battle to protect the native plants and animals of Aotearoa is achieved one word at a time and one weed at a time. Yesterday we were all involved in the Inglewood Environment Expo. The groups and organisations in our community delivering conservation work put together stalls and talks to raise awareness and encourage local people to get involved in back yard trapping, pest control in local reserves and the sponsorship of kiwi. There was a reasonable turn out but it will be interesting to see if any of those who attended will take the next step. Sean and Rory cooked on the bbq for the sausage sizzle. Today Colt and I spent two hours with four other volunteers weeding and laying mulch in PG Nops Reserve to give the native plants a better chance of survival.
It has been a reasonably settled week for Rory but the serious near misses and falls continue. We can’t help but wonder if this is the beginning of the total loss of Rory’s mobility. It now takes him a lot of effort to balance while standing and to control his legs. The falls are the result when he is unsuccessful. We met new ACC Occupational Therapist Dianne who is picking up where Leanne left off. Together we will come up with a plan for the next six months. Rory had a second session with ACC Psychologist Daniel. Support Carer Tash has a new puppy so Rory was on puppy duty. His face lights up when he is in the company of dogs. Rory and I had a zoom call with the Child Cancer Foundation. Pharmac are proposing a rule change which will negatively affect access to medication for child cancer patients. CCF is compiling a video submission on behalf of kiwi families. We were only too happy to help.
